Against the Tide: Wips Prt. II – Centric Diatom

31/03/2011

Centric Diatom

Centric Diatom

A bit further on with another painting. Oh, and I took everyone’s advice on the ‘Wave’ (see post) and left it as it is. I will post a good shot of that once it has it’s second varnish, and we have some good light. Anyway, this one is called ‘Centric Diatom‘ (look it up on Google) and is acyrlic paint on 10×10 deep edged canvas. Colours are a bit off  and lack lustre (blueish?) due to lack of natural light and the overhead light being on, which makes it hard to appreciate the detail and intensity.  I plan to finish this one today or tomorrow.

I actually genuinely belly laughed. I was thinking ‘the rock?’. You know, I left it in by mistake, it was holding down a photocopy of a Centric Diatom that I was using as reference. Living near just near the beach, we pick up rocks all the time, and sometimes I paint them. I only got this back the other day as Orla nabbed it and hid it for ages.

I will get a nice rock from the beach, and paint especially for you.

Thank you my darling. The colours are showing a bit too blue is all, plus the bad light has lost some of the depth and detail. But, thank you so much peaches.

p.s. I’ll tell you who got me started on painting stones Jeanette. An artist friend called Vic aka ‘Artist with a Pencil’. She started following my old blog on blogger a few years ago, and she paints them. I thought they were lovely, and she gave me some tips. Here is her link: p.s. http://artwithapencil.blogspot.com/
