Lino Cutting

Lino Cut 1

Lino Cut 1

It’s been a quiet week art wise here, as it’s half term and getting much done is tricky. However, I have almost completed some ink drawings for my show, finished a lino cut reading for printing, and finished some letter art pieces ready for scanning and printing and soon to be listed in my shop.

Lino Cutting: Here is my (almost) finished lino cut. I suspect I am cutting way deeper than I need to, that’s very typical of me, I always tend to put too much weight to things, and need to break that habit. Also, you can see where I slipped and lightly scored the lino down near the bottom. I have tried to scrape the surface to even it out, and hope it wont’ show when I print.  I will be doing some test prints this weekend.

Thanks Rona, going to do some printing at the weekend, though in the meantime I shall try and get another one ready.

Oh, Jeanette will tell you some horror stories about when we used to do this at school. Your efforts look considerably more impressive, not surprisingly. What do you plan to do with it when it is finished? What will you print onto?

Hi Laura. I did it at school too. You have to remember though, children have considerably less strength and dexterity than an adult, and in truth…it’s not really a suitable pastime for children. Also, as you can see I am using a bench block, which makes a huge difference, and is foolhardy to attempt cutting without one.

I plan to print on paper, and then sell any prints that are good enough. I am also working on some more designs, and in fact have slightly added to the one pictured here.

    It’s looking wonderful Lorrie!

I did lino printing on fabric in my mid-twenties. It’s so much fun to create patterns from the stamping.

      Hey there Jess…

I have added to it a little since, added some circles/holes. I can’t wait to get printing, just waiting for more inks, blues, teals, turquoises, purples etc.
