This was one of the pieces I did for an exhibtion, which was part of my theme of the sea, and the flora and fauna within. This particular painting was inspired by a small illustration I had done a few weeks previously. It is based (as with so many of my sea themed paintings) on the macro and microscopic marine creatures of the deep sea, and the iridescent colours they produce, and the strange and undulating shapes they have.
Medium: acrylic paint and ink on 8×10 deep edged canvas. The ink is drawn in using a Rotring Isograph pen which is ideal for this medium. However, it must be varnished as the ink will run if in contact with water. The varnish I used is suitable for both acrylic and oil. A varnish that is designed for acrylic paint only will move the ink. I used Winsor and Newton (oil colour) Artists’ Matte Varnish. I am not sure whether this is going into my shop or a local gallery.
The detail in this is just so beautiful and intricate. I love looking at your drawings.

Thank you Kelly…I will admit I was pleased with how this one finished itself. 🙂
