Having a go at Rubber Stamp Carving

28/07/2012

Flower and leaf stamp print on Khadi paper

Months ago, after reading an article about rubber stamp carving by Geninne Zlatkis and subsequently reading her tutorial and watching her video, I decided finally (when I was supposed to be doing something else) to have a go at rubber stamp carving. Spur of the moment is always a good way to go, so I just got out the Moo carving block I had bought a while back, my new Speedball cutter and got on with it.

It was an interesting experience, having only previously done lino cutting and been used to the requisite pressure, I was not entirely prepared for how easy it was to cut, like butter really, so I realised a very light touch was needed indeed. It was a lot of fun, and I had a little stamp finished quite quickly. Above are my results, and not to shabby if I may so myself, though lots more practice is needed

Incidentally, the talented Geninne has just written a book on stamp carving which can be pre-ordered on Amazon. It’s already on my wishlist.

Definitely, go for it, lots of fun. You can get carving block here, look on ebay or amazon, and some lino cutting tools, ink block, and you are away.

Wow, they look amazing, particularly the stamps on that lovely blue paper. Very impressive for a first go. What will you do with them.

Thank you Collette, I will probably frame the blue one and keep, the others I will include with presents for friends and family. I am about to carve a VW camper when Luke has drawn it out. 🙂

Thank you Lorrie. Now I have a list of stuff to get so I can have a go at carving my own rubber stamps. I can think of lots of future projects.

Those look great! Well done 🙂

I love rubber stamps, but haven’t used any for a while… It’d be great to have a go at making my very own though! 🙂
