I first came across prolific Brazilian illustrator Cristiano Siqueira aka Chris Vector some years ago on deviantART. I was immediately impressed by his talent and unique style, and Chris’s work stood out in an arena already heaving with talent. Chris specialises in digital art, most particularly, vector art. Vector art like fractal art is one of those esoteric mediums that I admire greatly, whilst having no desire to try to master (cos it’s too hard). I loved Chris’s work particularly for its dynamism and visual impact, and the retro comic style that some of his pieces embody.
Chris lives and works in Sao Paulo in Brazil, works in digital media, and clients include Microsoft, Mastercard, Nike, ESPN amongst many others. Chris trained in graphic design and has been working as an illustrator since 2005, with the previous six years working as a graphic designer doing print and packaging design. Chris uses digital applications and a graphics tablet mostly to create his unique pieces, with Illustrator being his preferred tool of the trade.
Chris is a very hard-working, driven and inspired artist who constantly works to improve his craft and take on new ideas and techniques. The thing I find most impressive about Chris is how prolific he is, his diversity, adaptivity and the flow of new ideas and concepts in a medium that is so competitive.
It’s not easy finding information about Chris, his inspiration, motivation etc as he is a fairly reticent individual. But, I did find an interview he did for Creative Overflow in 2009, if you want to know more about him and his work. Other than that, check out his website as he updates his portfolio fairly regularly.
