Design Juices

Location: North West, England

Tell us about yourself ?

I am a mid 20’s blogger, writer and social media manager for several sites online. Design Juices is my personal design blog, which has been established for three years.

What motivated you to created Design Juices?
The site was born out of my increasing involvement online whilst at university. I wanted a more structured website to collate research and inspiring design work I was finding. This soon evolved into writing tutorials, interviews with big name designers, showcasing work, giveaways and more.

Who or what inspires you?
My inspiration at university and college was always the design work of Dieter Rams, and the Bauhaus school of design, with more recent inspirations from Jonathan Ive at Apple Computers.

In terms of my current motivations and inspirations to work on the websites I run, I’m inspired to create creative communities which lean on each other to share advice, and help the next generations of creative students and designers. I want to support and help design students whilst at university, and taking their first steps on the employment ladder.

When you aren’t fully occupied working on Design Juices, what are you doing?
I’m often found tweeting too much as @jthompsondesign. I’m also heavily involved in being a partner with Kelly at www.Indieminded.com, and have stretched even further to launch the fashion arm of Design Juices with Fashion Juices this past month.

What do you hope to be doing in five years time? Goals and objectives?
I have a long term personal goal to be living and working in Canada. After several family trips there (& family living in British Columbia) I would love to be able to move out to what I feel is the best place to live in the world. I’d love for the websites I’ve launched to still be making an influence on the online creative community, whilst also giving me the freedom to not have to work your average 9-5 job.
