Of the many things I have worked on in the last year or so, one of which I am most proud is Artjunky.net.
Yesterday was our ONE year anniversary. We set out to create a platform for artists, designers, those in the creative industries, of all ages and disciplines, both emerging and established, to profile their work, be featured, interviewed and connect with other artists through the website and associated social media accounts.
I conceived the notion to start a new art and design platform, as I felt there was a section of the art & design community not being represented. It concerned me that I was seeing the same faces again and again, and that despite the evident talent of these artists, there were many, by dint of age, circumstances, background, lack of publicity etc, whom were simply not being recognised or being featured.
The art & design world always has been a very elitist and cliquey place. If your face doesn’t fit, or you are the wrong age, wrong background, not ‘in’ with the right people, you will be largely ignored.
So a year ago, Stina Jones and I launched Artjunky to redress this situation. It’s still very much a work in progress, we don’t always have as much time to devote to it as we would like, but we do our best and it is our intention to do better.
The project has been very successful and we are now well established. Without Stina Jones, Patrik Boberg, Elsa Mora and their commitment and dedication to the project, it would not have happened.
We have loads of new articles, exhibition profiles, features and interviews planned and I can’t wait to get on. I want to thank all our readers, featured artists and contributors for their encouragement and support.
So, to celebrate our first year, I have given the site a big old makeover, with a new theme and livery, which I hope everyone likes. 🙂
I hope you also like Stina’s brilliant birthday character in her party hat!
