I have re-learned something this week, a wisdom imparted by many, but only really came home to me forcefully this weekend. It is important to try and view ourselves through the eyes of the ones we love, and who love us.
The other night, my husband took a picture of me whilst I was working on my laptop. I didn’t like the picture, and I had a good moan about my weight, my face, my age, how I looked, my chin, everything in fact. My daughter who was playing Minecraft as usual looked up and said ‘why do you always say such mean things about yourself, I think you look pretty’. So, a wake up call that! We should be more careful what we say about ourselves, because our children take it ALL in, and the last thing we want them to learn from us is ‘self loathing’. The world is cruel and critical enough. Lesson learned.
Orla drew and wrote this to me a couple of days before this incident. I was very moved. She is a dear, kind and caring little soul, I can’t think where she get’s it from!!
Dear friend, this is so touching. I had a similar experience with my daughter a few years ago. Children know what really matter. They are always right and we should listen to them.
You are beautiful and so is Orla.
Sending a tight hug!
Elsita 🙂
Thank you Elsita, that is very kind of you. Children are insightful and see to the core truth of things, and as my Mother-in law often quotes me ‘out of the mouths of babes’ etc.
Sending you hugs in return.
