Hanami – Inspired by Japan Prt 3

Hanami

Aquarelle water colour paint and acrylic ink on water colour paper. This piece is loosely based on a traditional Kimono design that featured peonies and butterflies. I used the colours as a jumping off point, though kept the palette simpler. Available in my Society6 Shop as a print, iphone cover, tote bag and more.

Sketchbook Drawings

As I am supposed to be taking it easy after surgery, and slobbing around the house while my hubby looks after me and the urchin, I have been mostly painting, sketching and working on web design stuff. Here are some sketchbook pieces that I particularly liked. The top image are some ideas for more lino cutting and stamp carving, second one was drawn whilst watching The Rescuers and Star Trek with Orla, and the last one, well…my chair in the living room is next to my bookcases and my books, need I say more.

Inspiration…

WIP II

Comes in many forms and from many places. One of my artistic inspirations comes from a source that I have returned to many times and in fact has inspired me since I was a little girl, and that is the art and design of both Japan and China. I have been collecting Chinese and Japanese art, porcelain, and embroidered silks since I was a young girl.  I visit the Chinese and Japanese permanent exhibitions at the V&A on a regular basis and have been doing so for years, and I own many, many books on the art of both cultures.  So, it’s no surprise therefore that I would revisit those themes and motifs periodically.

Lorrie Whittington is an illustrator and designer-maker living on the south coast of England with her family. Her focus is drawing, design, photography and ceramics. Lorrie specialises in hand drawn illustrations and more recently hand made ceramic ware. She loves the countryside, the beach, books, music and chocolate.
