Lino cutting

Due to catching my daughters cold and subsequently getting inflamed sinuses, I have been unable to paint this week so I decided to put to use the bench hook my husband made for me, and do some lino cutting. I have to say, despite that it’s been a long time since I last did it…it was brilliant, and it came back to me really quickly.  I was coasting within minutes and cutting up a storm.

'Returning' on Khadi Paper

I have been doing some line work lately; ink, stippling and working on abstracts, looping, sort of almost nouveau themes. I have done a lot, but as always…remiss in scanning. Anyway, here are a couple of examples.  A line drawing on bright pink Indian Khadi paper, and a hand drawn Moleskin Cahier.  I am working on a series of line art pieces on Khadi paper.

New Work + Old Influences

Random Practice: Old School

I was looking through some old finished drawings and sketchbooks from college and university, and found a selection that had been influenced by Paul Klee and Braque, I think in fact I used both artists as a basis for a design brief. I also found some fashion design presentation drawings that had been executed in an art deco style, again a design brief, so I decided to revisit some of those ideas. Here is a small selection of drawings influenced by, well….me. Random Practice: Old School Isograph pens and ink, Faber & Castell Pitt pens and Faber & Castell polychromos pencils on A5 heavy weight smooth cartride paper.

Lorrie Whittington is an illustrator, designer-maker, free spirit, chocolate eating geek, living in the heart of the Sussex countryside on the south coast of Britain. She draws, paints, reads a lot, makes things with clay, likes scf-fi and hangs out with her daughter.
