Summer Art Journal + Analogue Love

21/07/2013

Orla finished school on Friday for the summer  (yipeee, six weeks with my girl), which officially heralded the start of our big ‘Summer Art/Writing Project’. The plan is for us both to keep a summer art journal chronicling our holiday in Polperro in Cornwall (we arrived yesterday) and the rest of our summer adventures.   The project will last until Orla goes back to school in September, though I may continue until the end of the month.  I have also decided that I will concentrate on my lomo/analogue photography this summer. I will only be using analogue photographs for my journal. So, I have bought new films for my Fuji Instax 8, dusted of my Diana Mini and my Holga 135 BC. The sketchbook I am using is quite large, I will use my Canon to take pics of my art journal/sketchbook pages and post shots rather than scans. Can’t wait to get started. I will post shots of the journal in it’s entirety later on in the summer as a slideshow project. If you are interested in purchasing any original pieces, postcards and prints then please visit my ART SHOP.

Lomo Love Prt. IV

Bognor Beach Huts

Lomo shots with my Diana Mini  and a couple or so with my  Holga 135BC back in January. Have a backlog of films to develop and this is the first batch, some of them came out quite well, I will be putting the full selection on Lomography.  The Holga shots were a bit trial and error as it was the first time I had used it which is why I only include a couple here. Though they are in the slide show,  I added them separately as well, as they render better than in the slide show. Takes a bit of getting used to, but quite good fun.

Lomo Love Prt. III – Chichester Cathedral.

Chichester Cathedral

Some of the more successful shots I took in late November using my Diana Mini around Chichester Cathedral and the Bishops Palace. You can see the rest of the album on Lomography. These aren’t as good as the very first batch I did, and I think it’s because I am using cheaper and poorer quality film. Lesson learned, that free Jessops film  for every roll may seem like a good idea, but…not always.

Leaves Lomo 3

I have a new love at the moment, and it’s name is ‘Lomo‘. What is Lomo? Well, analogue photography using a Lomo camera, like a Diana, Holga or Lomo LC-A. I was intrigued recently by a Lomo feature on Etsy, and got chatting on Twitter to one of Lomography’s directors. I had a look at the site, peoples collections and became drawn in by these lovely whimsical images, and by the interesting, talented and supportive community on Lomography.
