Read MoreDue to design commitments, family life, sick children, CCN, tax returns to be submitted etc, it’s been quiet here lately, and little time for personal art projects, like my my water colour paintings, lino cutting, my mood cubes and many other projects. However, I have made a firm resolve that despite all these pressing demands, I will make time for my own stuff shit or bust! So, to that end…I have been working on my latest lino cut this morning. Now, firstly…it’s been a while. I had to abandon the last piece I was working on as I over cut basically, and ruined it. I may try and rescue it at some point when I have time. This is what I am working at the moment, and decided to base this design on one of my leaf illustrations, and keep it as simple as possible. As you can see I am using the bench hook my husband made me, which is brilliant. This was his own design, and he knocked it up in an afternoon, and it’s perfect. I can cut away safely without putting my fingers in any danger.
Read MoreI would like to introduce one of my favourite artists (and a very nice person as well), whose unique and refreshing style of illustration, though very different to mine, I always find very inspiring and a delight to look at. Her name is Melanie Chadwick of Mellybee Illustration. Melanie’s style of illustration is very light, refreshing, quirky, individual and fun. I met Melanie some time ago when she came across my MOO cards (on Flickr I think) and we struck up a correspondence. She was kind enough to feature my art on her blog last year. Melanie has a degree in Fine Art, and has exhibited her work all over the country, her more traditional work featuring the landscapes of Scotland (where she lived for a while) and Cornwall, her current home.
Read MoreDue to catching my daughters cold and subsequently getting inflamed sinuses, I have been unable to paint this week so I decided to put to use the bench hook my husband made for me, and do some lino cutting. I have to say, despite that it’s been a long time since I last did it…it was brilliant, and it came back to me really quickly. I was coasting within minutes and cutting up a storm.
