Read MoreOrla’s school topic for this term was ‘Pirates‘, and a lot of work has been put into homework etc, learning all about Pirates (by her and us). She has thoroughly enjoyed it, for lets be honest, what child doesn’t loves Pirates. However, this week extra effort has been made as the homework was a ‘two week’ project, which saw us making a Pirate Chest, creating our own pirate character called ‘Pirate Captain Jesse Black‘, writing up a fact sheet all about our pirate, and most important of all, creating her costume for Pirate Day at school. To be honest, she isn’t that well, and could really have done with a day at home. But, the first words from her lips upon waking this morning were ‘PIRATE DAAAAAY‘, so that was not to be thought of at all!!!

Last week we had to decorate her scooter for a parade (a joint effort by me and her Daddy), then yesterday was the school Jubilee Fair itself. Cakes had to be made for the ‘Bake Off’ (frantic baking the night before, though the decorating didn’t quite go to plan), Jubilee Jars decorated (more frantic work that morning), and a Jubilee Scarecrow made (though sadly that was a bridge too far for us) and lastly Jubilee coloured clothes for ‘Mufti’ day for Orla. Now, it has to be said, I am not a Royalist, most definitely not, nor is Luke…but you pretty much have to abandon your political convictions and ethos for your children when it comes to school fairs and the like, so, efforts were made. The day was blazingly hot, everyone worked really hard, all the cakes for the ‘Bake Off’ were fabulous, and we ate more than was good for us. Kudos to all the parents and staff and in particular Orla’s Head Teacher who wore full royal regalia in what was probably the hottest day of this year. It was lots of fun, and the fair was great…
