Hands – Sketchbook

hands illustration

I drew this out last year and was originally supposed to be week 3 I think of Inktober 52, titled ‘Reflection’. I abandoned it for a while and then forced myself to finish it, as an exercise more than anything else. Eventually I gave up on Inktober 52, as I find it really hard to stick to a schedule these days.  I changed from a fineliner 0.1 to a 0.05 part way through as you can see. My reference image was the worst ever, a black and white photocopy of a very grainy old photo of hands resting on a table. Find me on ❦ Instagram Tumblr

Geiko: Mixed Media Journal

Illustration of a Kyoto Geiko from Japan in my Mixed Media Journal. Follow the link if you would like to learn more about Geiko, Geisha and Maiko in Japan. Materials includes, gouache, acrylic ink, prismacolor pencils, posca pens, fineliners, washi tape, origami paper. The process was problematic and time consuming as the gouache did not interact well with the acrylic ink, and was resistant. But, as in all things its an organic process and as ever a learning curve when mixing media. Find me on ❦InstagramTumblr

For me, 2020 was going to be about life changes following certain personal events in 2019, and which started a train of events that led to some big life decisions. However, some of those life changes were, like so many, imposed upon me and were even more bizarre than I could have imagined. Many of my own plans for the year had to be shelved naturally, and life became about adapting. I was still able to pursue some of my plans, but many were not tenable, and still may not be this year. Again, it was and still is all about adapting.
